Police in Ohio are investigating after two infants were found dead in Cleveland’s Buckeye Shaker Square neighborhood on Saturday.
Cleveland police said that its homicide unit is investigating the deaths, WOIO said.
“The Cleveland Police Homicide Unit investigates all cases of child fatalities,” Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.
Ciaccia said the babies were found around 7:30 p.m. but provided no further information.
Sources have told another Cleveland station, however, that the two babies were newborn twins and that they were found in trash bins outside the home.
“Sources told us the babies were found in the trash on Saturday, but they may have been born on Thursday,” WKYC reporter Lydia Esparra said.
Esparra said the medical examiner confirmed the deaths but did not provide any information about the infants.
A neighbor told WKYC they heard babies crying late Saturday afternoon “and then they just stopped.”
