Portuguese Judiciary Police are preparing to begin a new search at a dam in the Algarve, about 30 miles from Praia da Luz, where British toddler Madeleine McCann disappeared 16 years ago.
The search at the Barragem do Arade reservoir in Silves, at the request of German police, is to begin on Tuesday, CNN Portugal reports.
An attorney funded private searches of the area in 2008, the network reported, and found some animal bones.
This week’s search, expected to last for two days unless something is found, is not expected to be on the water but rather around the dam itself and in nearby woods. Witnesses have reported seeing the preparations being set up.
According to the Observador, prime suspect Christian Brückner frequented the dam and a few miles away. He is serving a seven-year prison sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in 2005.
Maddie, then 3-year-old, disappeared from her parents’ resort room in 2007 while they were having dinner at the resort’s restaurant, as CrimeOnline has reported.
