A New York man has been charged with murder after his 3-month-old daughter was found dead in a wooded area near the homeless shelter where the family lived.
Investigators found the body of Genevieve Comager at about 10:30 p.m. just steps away from a pedestrian overpass of the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, as CrimeOnline reported.
Her father, 23-year-old Damion Comager, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and concealment of a human corpse, WCBS reported.
The suspect’s father, Donald Comager, called police when his son confessed to him, the outlet said.
“I asked him why, and he told me that he shook her and he laid her down because she was screaming, and he went to sleep because he was tired. He went to sleep, then woke up and she was stiff, she was cold,” he said. “My son, he might think I didn’t do the right thing. But I did the right thing.”
“I think it was an accident. I mean, I still had to say something. I couldn’t say nothing,” the baby’s grandfather said.
Genevieve’s mother, 20-year-old Ivana Paolozzi, was charged with concealment of a human corpse and obstructing governmental administration.
On his way out of the police precinct on Monday, the suspect said he “loved my daughter, and I’m sorry.”
The medical examiner has not yet confirmed the cause of death.
