A South Carolina court issued an order Friday after it accidentally provided crime scene photos of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh’s 2021 slayings to Netflix.
On Friday, Judge Newman ordered that some video evidence from Alex Murdaugh’s double murder trial this year cannot be released to the public. A court official explained to WCIV that unredacted bodycam footage from Colleton County Sheriff’s Office deputies Daniel Greene and Chad McDowell was not sealed when it was inventoried during Alex’s trial.
Apparently, the videos should have been sealed as they captured glimpses of the grisly crime scene. During the trial — which led to Alex Murdaugh’s conviction and life sentence — it was revealed that most of Paul’s head was shot off with a shotgun at point-blank range.
WCIV reported that the sensitive videos were given to a Netflix crew working on a documentary about the high-profile case. According to the news outlet, redacted versions of these videos do not fall under Judge Newman’s recent order.
