A 4-year-old girl who vanished on Friday from her family’s rental home in Florida has been found dead, according to reports.
Evelyn Greer’s body was discovered at the water’s edge in a canal not far from her family’s VRBO rental in Port Charlotte. WINK News reported that the family was staying there after being displaced by Hurricane Ian in September.
WINK News also reported that Greer was autistic. Charlotte County police — who released 911 calls in this case — said the family had a deadbolt lock on the door at their home but not at their rental.
During the 911 call, Greer’s mother is heard saying, “This can’t be happening,” before telling the dispatcher that her daughter was wearing “just a diaper.” A first responder later relayed that the mother found the front door open early Friday.
WTVT reported that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission discovered Greer’s body. Officials have not released details regarding her cause of death.
