A Virginia grand jury indictment accuses a father of killing his 4-year-old son months before reporting him missing early last year.
WAVY reported earlier this week that Cory Bigsby had been indicted for the murder of his son, Codi Bigsby.
New court documents revealed Friday allege he killed the boy “on or about June 18, 2021.”
The father was previously indicted on 30 counts of child neglect related to one or more of his four children, including Codi, as CrimeOnline reported. He had been named a person of interest in Codi’s disappearance but not charged until this week.
Bigsby told police he hadn’t see his son since about 2 a.m. on January 31, 2022, sparking intensive searches in the Hampton area, where he lived. Hampton Police Chief Mark Talbot said last year that he believed the boy’s family was “key” to finding him, noting that “the evidence doesn’t match to what we’ve been told.”
Talbot told WAVY after the new indictment that he was not surprised.
“I hope that today starts the healing process for the family and for those of us who found ourselves in pain for a child that we never met,” he said.
Bigsby is also charged with concealing a dead body, the outlet reported. He is expected in court on Wednesday.
