Instacart Driver Leaves Infant in 100-degree Car While He Shops at Publix

On Sunday, Florida police arrested a man who allegedly left a baby in his car as he shopped.

Police responded to a Publix in Lake County regarding a child in a locked vehicle. An employee told officers that a customer alerted them to a child in a rear-facing car seat in Keita Jones’ vehicle, according to WKMG.

Tavares Fire crews reportedly forced open a window that was already cracked. Crews noted that the baby was clammy, breathing heavily, and sweating, WKMG reported.

Jones, 27, was allegedly spotted running to customer service after a Publix manager made an announcement about his vehicle. According to WESH, he told police that he was completing an Instacart order and he “did not believe he was inside the store for very long.”

Jones allegedly claimed he left the baby in the car because it was raining and he did not want them getting wet. He also stated that he left the windows down — but a thermal imaging device determined the car seat was between 100 and 105 degrees, WKMG reported.

Police accused Jones of leaving the infant in the car for 45 minutes. He is charged with child neglect.
