A Florida man who reportedly took his own life on Sunday after shooting his ex-girlfriend was charged with strangling her years earlier.
After shooting the victim 11 times, Wayne Dew, 65, was in a seven-hour standoff with Seminole police and SWAT which ended with him turning the gun on himself. The shooting victim’s fiancé told WFTS that she was living with Dew — who c0-owns her home — but she was trying to get him to live somewhere else.
The woman reportedly suffered gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and legs. Despite that, police said she fled to a neighbor who called 911. Dew barricaded himself in their shared home before SWAT entered and found him dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
According to WFTS, Dew was arrested in 2016 for jumping on top of the victim and covering her nose and mouth with his hands. Court documents indicated that she had the charges dropped five days later.
The shooting victim’s fiancé said she would be released from the hospital this week.
