UConn Student Shot and Killed in Botched Marijuana Robbery

An 18-year-old University of Connecticut student was shot and killed this week in what police said appeared to be a botched marijuana robbery.

Hartford police were called to the scene at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night for a vehicle crash. Emergency crews found a man, identified as Zaid Deja Langs-Myers, with gunshot wounds outside the car.

“On scene, there was quite of bit or marijuana where the crash happened, leading us to believe, at this point in the investigation, robbery of that marijuana was a motive for the homicide,” Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said, according to CT Insider.

Boisvert said investigators have spoken “at length” to a passenger in the vehicle, who was not harmed.

Langs-Myers was taken to a a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, WVIT said.

UConn said Langs-Myers was a student, enrolled in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Boisvert said investigators used traffic cameras to track the Lincoln Town Car back to another location where they believe the shooting took place.

“We do have some pretty strong investigative leads at this point,” Boisvert said, according to WTNH.
