An Ohio man has been arrested for killing his three sons on Thursday and shooting the children’s mother.
Clermont County chief prosecutor David Gast said Chad Doerman, 32, lined up the three boys, ages 3, 4, and 7, and fatally shot them with a rifle. Gast said Doerman “hunted” one of the boys who attempted to run away before bringing him back to their home and killing him with his two brothers, according to USA Today.
The slain boys’ mother was reportedly shot in the hand as she tried to stop the slayings. WLWT reported that she was found outside of the home.
Clermont County Sheriff Robert Leahy claimed he told the mother about her sons’ death while at the hospital.
Doerman –who reportedly met responding officers on his front doorstep — allegedly admitted to killing his three sons. Gast said he also confessed to planning the murders.
USA Today reported that two 911 calls were placed, and one suggests that Doerman had other children. In the second call, a driver relayed that they saw a young girl running down the street and saying, “her father was killing everyone.” Three minutes prior, an unidentified woman called 911 screaming about “her babies had been shot.”
“They [first responders] held these children knowing there was nothing they could do. How do you unsee that sort of abomination?” Gast commented.
Doerman is charged with aggravated murder. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26. His bond was set at 20 million.
