Authorities believe a 13-year-old Wisconsin boy missing since Monday is alive and tring to live “off the grid.”
Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Steven Schram told the Wisconsin State Journal that investigators have developed a profile of James Yoblonski “which leads us to believe he is acting with intention.”
The teen drove away from his home in Reedsburg early Monday morning in the family van — and is believed to have taken a gun with him, as CrimeOnline has reported. The van was found within an hour of his family reporting him missing near Devil’s Lake State Park. Investigators have found his cell phone and two campsites, along with some articles of clothing believed to belong to him, in the heavily wooded area.
Schram said young Yoblonski is believed to have two woodland survival manuals with him and that evidence found during the search for him has corresponded with instructions in the manuals.
The sheriff’s office and the boy’s family believe the teen is actively trying to evade searchers and that it’s time to try a more “indirect approach” to finding him, he said.
Crews are trying to “reduce visible impact” in the search area — which is in treacherous terrain around the Baraboo Bluffs area — so as not to prompt Yablonski to flee deeper into an area he’s unfamiliar with. Two officers have already been injured during the search in the rugged area, he said, which is the reason behind authorities’ discouragement of public involvement in the search.
Anyone with information on Yablonski’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office at 608-355-4495.
