A caregiver has been charged with the murder of a Tennessee toddler and injuries suffered by another child in Tullahoma.
Police were called to a home late Friday morning for a 2-year-old child was wasn’t breathing. Officers who arrived began life-saving measures and brought the toddler to a hospital, but the child later died, Tullahoma Police said.
The second child, whose age was not given, was also taken to a hospital for treatment and was said to be in stable condition.
Investigators said Elic Smith, 21, was taking care of the children at the time. Smith was charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of aggravated child abuse.
Both Tullahoma Police and Coffee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating. No other information was released.
Smith was given a $225,000 bond with a first appearance set for June 22, according to WZTV.
