An Ohio man who reportedly killed his three sons last week allegedly told authorities that he planned the slayings for months.
Prosecutors said Chad Doerman, 32, lined up the three boys, ages 3, 4, and 7, and shot them with a rifle. Following his arraignment on Friday, Doerman’s father told WCPO that he does not know what the motive is because he is not allowed to speak to his son.
“(He) just snapped. I could tell in his eyes he’s hollow inside. That wasn’t Chad standing at the arraignment, that was not him,” he said.
Doerman allegedly also shot the children’s mother as she tried to stop the slayings. The three boys were found dead in a yard, while Doerman was found sitting next to the rifle on the porch.
WCPO reported that Doerman was charged in 2010 with choking his father but a judge dismissed the case. Doerman’s father told the news outlet that the incident was a “misunderstanding” — and described his jailed son as a “fun-loving guy” and “super dad.”
Doerman’s bond was set at $20 million. He is due back in court on June 26.
