A Florida man suspected of killing his wife in Florida was found dead after wrecking his car during a police chase in Georgia.
Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy told WMAZ that officers spotted the man’s vehicle late Monday afternoon and gave chase, with the man — whose identity has not been released — firing at the officers. They did not return fire, Peavy said.
The crash took place just west of Unadilla just before 6 p.m.
The driver was found dead in his vehicle, but it’s not clear if he died in the crash or shot himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating, but the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office referred to the incident as a “chase and standoff” in a Facebook post.
Police in Florida, however, identified him as Jonathon Segar, 31, and said he died of a gunshot wound in Georgia, WCJB reported.
Williston Police said Segar, who is suspected of fatally shooting 30-year-old Ariel Griffin early Monday, is “no longer a threat to the public and the victim’s family.”
Segar and Griffin had a “previous domestic relationship,” police said, and the two had a toddler together. Griffin also had another child.
Segar fled the area in a Chevrolet truck with distinctive yellow and blue graphics for “DGD – Discount Garage Doors.”
