Codi Bigsby: Judge Grants Bail to Virginia Dad Accused of Killing Missing Son

A Virginia father facing over 30 charges connected to his 4-year-old son’s disappearance and presumed death was granted bond Wednesday.

According to NBC 3, Judge James Hawks granted Cory Bigsby, who stands accused of killing his son, Codi Bigsby, a bond of $80,000 during a Hampton court hearing Wednesday.

Following the judge’s decision, Bigby’s attorney, Amina Matheny-Willard, told the outlet that Bigsby deserved the decision, reiterating that he has not been found guilty.

“Where he stands right now, he is not guilty of any crime,” she said. “Just like the judge said, we’re innocent until you’re proven guilty. That’s what’s supposed to happen in this country.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Bigsby told police he hasn’t seen his son since about 2 a.m. on January 31, 2022, sparking intensive searches in the Hampton area, where he lived.

Earlier this month, according to court records, he was indicted on first-degree murder charges. He’s also facing 30 counts of child neglect related to one or more of his four children, including Codi. He has maintained his innocence, claiming he has no idea where his son is.

Court records indicate that Bigbsy is accused of killing his son in 2021, then waiting seven months to report him missing.

Matheny-Willard hopes that the child will be found, echoing the sentiments of the defendant’s uncle, who reportedly said he won’t believe “Codi is dead until we see a dead body.”

Meanwhile, the judge said Bigsby must remain on house arrest while out on bail. Matheny-Willard said the defendant will stay with his daughter in Norfolk, and won’t be allowed to leave the city, and won’t be allowed to leave home except for attorney and doctor appointments.

Bigsby is expected back in court on August 25 for a competency hearing. Check back for updates.
