San Diego Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the deaths of two people found dead in their home Thursday morning by their teenage daughter.
The sheriff’s department says it received a call from the 14-year-old girl at about 9:30 a.m. When deputies arrived at the El Cajon mobile home, they found a man and a woman dead in their bedroom, both with trauma to their upper torsos and heads.
Deputies said the cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Homicide detectives overseeing the case said they didn’t believe there was any threat to the community.
Neighbors told KNSD that the parents were in their 40s and had three children, the teen girl and two children younger than 10. The two younger children were believed to have been at home Wednesday night; the teen girl had been away and returned home Thursday morning.
The neighbors reported hearing nothing overnight that would have alerted them to a problem.
“We’re in shock, we’re in shock. We never expected this We saw them just yesterday,” neighbor Ana Maria Almaguer said.
Almaguer said the couple and their children were a close-knit family and were “very, very nice people.”
Yolanda Nichols, a family friend, said her granddaughter and the 14-year-old girl graduated eighth grade last Friday.
“They looked excited because they are moving out of state, selling their home. They seemed very happy,” she said of the family. “The kids were always great, always saying hi, always playing in the park. They had no fear.”
Neighbors also said the children’s grandparents lived nearby and would likely take care of them.
Investigators told KGTV they were not aware of any outstanding suspects.
