Georgia’s non-profit organization, Blue Thanksgiving, will be holding a first-ever golf tournament in Cobb County in August and they need your help.
Founders Kimberly and Douglas Hill established Blue Thanksgiving in 2013, when negativity toward law enforcement in the area began increasing. In support of local police precincts, they started delivering homemade holiday treats to officers that year.
The following year, Kimberly and Douglas expanded their efforts by delivering Thanksgiving day meals to the same precincts, and now their efforts will include the 2023 golf tournament, which will help raise funds to assist in delivering the meals.
“This will be our first ever golf tournament and we need support,” Kimberly told CrimeOnline.
The tournament is scheduled to take place on August 21 at Brookstone Golf Club in Acworth. Registration is currently open for the event, where food, beverages, trophies, and prizes will be handed out.

Following the tournament and Thanksgiving meals, Hill said they plan to offer financial aid to Cobb County officers facing severe medical diagnoses or experiencing catastrophic events in their lives, which has made them lose time at work.
“We have helped law enforcement officers dealing with brain tumors, liver, pancreas and kidney diseases and transplants, pancreatic and lung cancer, and much more,” Kim said.
“The Blue Family Christmas Campaign culminates with a formal gala at the Governor’s Gun Club in Kennesaw, this year happening on December 14. Nancy [Grace] was actually a guest of honor last year and said a few words to our officers from the stage.
“We have live music, a huge silent auction, dinner, dancing, gifts at the door for our officers, a live auction and more. This year we expect/hope to have 400 in attendance.”

Meanwhile, word has spread about the organization’s acts of kindness, and the project gained momentum in the subsequent years as local businesses and people joined forces to expand the initiative.
One such initiative that came about was the “Active Shooter” training meals, which entailed “feeding officers and other first responders attending the Active Shooter Training at Alatoona High School in Acworth.”
“We ended up feeding over 800 first responders for that,” Kimberly said.
“Now we’re preparing for the golf tournament to raise money to feed on duty officers who must work Thanksgiving Day.”
