Texas authorities are investigating the death of a woman whose body was wrapped in plastic and hidden behind a dumpster, Fox 26 reports.
Around 7:30 a.m. Friday, a food truck vendor came upon the body behind the dumpster in northwest Harris County, prompting him to call for help immediately. Deputies responded to the scene at a property by Highway 249 just a few miles from McDougle Elementary School in Fallbrook.
It is too early to tell whether foul play was involved, but police are investigating the death as a homicide, according to Fox 26.
Aerial footage from KHOU-TV showed a heavy law enforcement presence and representatives of a local homeless outreach team in the vicinity of where the body was found.
The woman is said to have been known on the streets, but her identity has not been released. One man, who asked not to be named, said he knew the victim.
“I’m going to miss her. She was a good lady,” the man told KHOU-TV.
Another unidentified man said he had seen the woman near a Burger King the day before her body was found.
“I feel bad because I have a daughter and I don’t want that to happen to her,” the man told KHOU-TV.
After investigators processed the scene, someone is believed to have written “RIP Sweetheart” on the dumpster near where the body was located. A balloon was also placed at the scene that read “RIP Anna,” according to KHOU-TV.
To report any information about the case, call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000.
