On Monday, Oklahoma police launched an investigation into a possible murder-suicide involving NASCAR racer Jimmie Johnson’s in-laws and nephew.
According to Fox 23, Jack and Terry Janway, the parents of Johnson’s wife, Chandra Janway, as well as their 11-year-old nephew, Dalton Janway, were found dead in a Muskogee home on Monday night.
Upon their arrival, police discovered a body in the hallway of the residence. Then they heard another gunshot coming from inside the house. The officers searched the premises and uncovered two other bodies inside.
Police arrived at the scene after a 911 call, reportedly made by Terry Janway, 68. She said someone was armed with a gun at the residence before abruptly ending the call.
“There was a disturbance and someone had a gun and then hung up,” the Muskogee Police Department told USA TODAY Sports.
Police identified Terry as a suspect in the case, while MPD public information officer Lynn Hamlin said the incident is believed to be a murder-suicide
Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson’s team will not be at the upcoming NASCAR race in Chicago, in response to the deaths. The family requests privacy at this time.
The motive behind the incident remains unknown, and the investigation is currently underway. Check back for updates.
