A Texas man was arrested this week just days after his wife was found dead along the shore of a North Texas lake.
Karlton Dudley, 37, has been charged with abuse of a corpse in connection with his wife’s death, Plano Police said.
Sarah Dudley, 32, was reported missing on Saturday, police said, and on Monday, Colony Police notified the department of the discovery of a body at Lewisville Lake that was later identified as the missing woman.
Karlton Dudley told police that he spent time with his wife early Saturday afternoon, KDFW reported, and then left to take care of a friend’s cat. When he returned at about 4 p.m., Dudley said his wpfe was gone and that he assumed she had gone to work.
He told investigators he took his kayak to Hidden Cove, on Lewisville Lake, but couldn’t inflate it.
“He claimed he couldn’t get his kayak to blow up, it’s a soft kayak, so he just stayed at the marina for a while and walked around,” said Plano Det. Jerry Minton.
After Sarah Dudley’s body was found, investigators learned that her husband was required to wear an ankle monitor because of a sexual assault case against a child in Frisco, Texas. When they looked at the data from his monitor, detectives found that “he was not just on the shore, he was out on the water somewhere,” Minton said.
The information they gathered was enough to arrest him on an abuse of a corpse charge, Minton said, and more charges could come after an autopsy is completed.
Meanwhile, Dudley is being held in the Collin County Jail on a $560,000 bond.
