Alleged Stalker Rams 3 Patrol Cars Trying to Follow Woman

Deputies in Idaho arrested an Oregon man Friday night who was so intent on stalking a woman in his car that he rammed at least three patrol cars to get at her.

Ryan Barstad, 38, was charged with stalking, battery on certain personnel, and possession of marijuana, KIFI reported.

Bonneville County deputies were called to a Cabella’s parking lot at about 9:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a suspicious man who had been following a woman. They tried to stop Barstad’s vehicle, but he ignored their commands to stop and drove around a patrol car that had pulled in between his vehicle and hers. Then he sped up in the parking lot to catch up with her.

Deputies eventually surrounded his vehicle, and he rammed at least three of them as he continued trying to get to the woman. Once he finally stopped, the deputies took him into custody and found almost 25 grams of marijuana inside his vehicle. He told the deputies he was following the woman because he thought she was in the army.

The woman told deputies that Barstad had been following her around the parking lot for about 20 minutes as she spoke with a friend on the phone. The friend contacted police.

Investigators said it didn’t appear that the victim and Barstad knew one another.
