Law enforcement in Maryland are looking for a suspect who broke into a home improvement store in Waldorf, stole a forklift, and killed a woman with it.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, but by the time they arrived, the suspect had rammed the gates of the business and left the scene in the forklift, witnesses told them.
Deputies canvassed the area and found the forklift nearby, but the suspect was again gone. The victim was found underneath it and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later said that the suspect encountered the woman in the parking lot, hit her with the forklift, and left in her vehicle. The car is described as a dark, copper-colored Ford Fusion with damage to the passenger side and a missing side mirror.
Police have not named the victim and said it’s not clear if she knew the suspect.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the Charles County Crime Solvers by calling 1-866-411-TIPS or email www.charlescountycrimesolvers.com.
