Six people are dead and a South Carolina man is in custody following a house fire Sunday morning in Colleton County.
Ryan Lenard Manigo, 33, has been charged with attempted murder of the sole surviving victim, officials said, and upgraded charges are pending the results of autopsies and identification of the other victims.
The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to the fire at about 11 a.m. Sunday. The surviving victim was life-flighted to an area hospital in critical condition, they said.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the investigation.
Investigators provided no other information, including what led them to conclude murder was the cause of death, how and where Manigo was found, whether the victims died in the fire, or the ages of the victims.
A source with direct knowledge of the incident told WCIV that at least one of the victims had apparent stab wounds, but the sheriff’s office has not confirmed that information.
Manigo is being held at the Colleton County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office at 843-549-2211.
