A Texas couple was arrested last week after the woman’s 4-year-old daughter was seriously injured while in her boyfriend’s care, according to reports.
Child Protective Services and McLennan County police learned of Kandis Eaton-Autrey’s daughter who suffered a lacerated pancreas, possible fractured ribs, and bruising on her body and face. KWTX reported that the victim — who is nonverbal and autistic — also had injuries to her vaginal area, buttocks, and back.
Eaton-Autrey, 39, allegedly told cops that she left her daughter with her boyfriend, Jeffrey Nevarez, 40, while she worked on June 27. When she returned, she reportedly noticed injuries on her daughter that Nevarez could not explain.
According to KWTX, a witness said Eaton-Autrey and her daughter spent the night at her home and the child was visibly injured and vomiting. Eaton-Autrey allegedly refused to take her daughter to the hospital.
At the time of the incident, Nevarez was on parole for a domestic violence charge involving a family member.
According to KWTX, Eaton-Autrey told authorities that she did not contact Child Protective Services regarding her daughter’s injuries because she feared the agency would take her.
The Waco Herald-Tribune reported that Child Protective Services plans to remove the girl from the home amid an investigation.
Eaton-Autrey is charged with abandoning or endangering a child. Her bond was set at $5,000. Nevarez is charged with injury to a child and violating parole. His bond was listed at $150,000.
