SC Man Charged With Murder of 2, Including His 11-Year-Old Daughter, in Deadly Fire

The South Carolina man arrested after a house fire killed six people and left another in critical condition has now been charged with murder for the deaths of two victims, one of whom was his 11-year-old daughter.

Ryan Manigo has been charged with the deaths of  Shariah Manigo and 50-year-old Michelle Marie Wright, his sister-in-law, WCBD reported. The other four victims have not yet been identified, and authorities said more charges are expected once that happens.

Manigo was already charged with attempted murder for the critically injured victim, a 13-year-old girl who was found outside the Colleton County home with cuts and stab wounds. She was treated on scene and then air-lifted to a hospital for further treatment.

Colleton County Fire Rescue said the girl told firefighters there were victims inside the burning home and gave them the first name of the suspect and a description of his vehicle.

“During extinguishment and overhaul, Firefighter-Paramedics discovered six victims inside the home. All six were deceased,” officials said.

The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to the scene at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, as CrimeOnline reported. Agencies were called when a neighbor reported seeing the home on fire, WCBD said, and firefighters said the roof had collapsed on one end by the time they arrived.

Colleton County Sheriff Guerry “Buddy” Hill Jr. said Manigo, 33, was arrested near the scene.

Officials said they have not determined a motive for the murders.

Family members addressed Manigo directly during a bond hearing on Monday.

“I want Ryan to know that he’ll never be forgiven,” said one family member. “When you did, you hurt us — you took away our matriarch of our family. Someone who took you in and fed you just as her own. I just wish you get the worse charges ever. I really wish you death. I wish they give you the death penalty. What you did is brought death to us … thank God one got away to be able to tell us what actually happened in that house. We hate you.”

“I just want to know why,” said another. “What was your motive? … I hope that you will get what you deserve if you are found totally guilty of all the charges that are brought against you. You’re talking about six lives and the seventh got away to tell us what happened.”

Manigo was denied bond.

Although authorities have not yet identified the other victims, David Magwood told WCBD his 101-year-old mother, Maggie, was among them.

“I can’t say what happened, but I do know one thing. I was expecting, all through life, for my mom to go to bed (at night) and not wake up in the morning,” he said. “And when I heard what I heard, I was very dissatisfied. It wasn’t nice at all.”

Magwood said an uncle and another young girl were also killed.
