A Maryland man has been charged with murder after stealing a forklift from a home improvement store and running over a woman who had been sleeping in her car in the parking lot of another.
The incident took place early Sunday morning, CrimeOnline reported. Witnesses told Charles County Sheriff’s deputies that someone broke into a Lowe’s home improvement store in Waldorf and made off with a forklift.
The forklift was found less than a mile away in the parking lot of a Home Depot, where deputies found it parked atop the body of 73-year-old Gloristine Pinkney, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say that Bryce Caleb Timothy Brown, 20, drove the forklift to Home Depot and then “for unknown reasons” rammed into the vehicle where Pinkney was sleeping. Pinkney got out of her car and tried to flee on foot, but Brown reportedly chased her down and ran over her.
He allegedly fled the scene in Pinkney’s car but was arrested Sunday evening. Pinkney’s car was found near his home
Investigator have not described a motive but said that Pinkney and Brown were “not known to each other.”
Brown has been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, assault, and theft. He was ordered held without bond.
