Attorneys representing an Ohio man who allegedly killed his three sons last month have asked the courts to issue a gag order in his case.
WXIX reported that Chad Doerman, 32, is due back in court on Wednesday for a pretrial hearing regarding the matter. In their June 26 filing, Doerman’s lawyers claimed media covering his first court appearance were “inflammatory and prejudicial.”
“If this Court feels that a ‘gag order’ is necessary, the State requests that the Court craft its own order to more specifically and carefully outline the obligations of the parties that would not be overly burdensome or run afoul of the State’s other duties and obligations by law,” prosecutors responded on Monday, according to WXIX.
Doberman could face the death penalty for killing his three sons, ages 3, 4, and 7, at their home on June 15. He allegedly used a Marlin Model HC .22 rifle to carry out the murders.
After allegedly killing his two sons, Doerman then snatched his 3-year-old son from his mother’s arms and shot him in the head. The mother was reportedly shot in the hand during the June 15 incident.
Doerman is charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping, and assault. He was ordered to remain jailed without bond at least until a July 5 court hearing.
