A missing South Carolina teenager was found dead in North Carolina, where deputies have arrested two people in connection with her murder.
Kierstyn Williamson, 18, was last seen on June 30, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, which said it learned Sunday morning that Williamson was believed to be at a home in Monroe, North Carolina.
A body believed to be Williamson was found Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Eddie Cathey said. Deputies arrested 25-year-old Joshua Newton, charging him with first degree murder and obstruction of justice, and his live-in girlfriend, 22-year-old Victoria Smith, who has been charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact.
According to WSOC, Williamson reportedly disappeared after meeting Newton on a dating website. Investigators say Newton picked Williamson up Friday night in Laurens, South Carolina, and drove to his home in Newton, two hours away.
Detectives believe Newton killed Williamson at the home, and Smith helped him dispose of the body along a rural road near Chesterfield, South Carolina, just back over the state line from Monroe.
Williamson’s family is left with questions.
“You don’t just go out of town one day and decide one day, ‘I’m going to go out of town, pick somebody up and kill them.’ That doesn’t just pop into your head,” her uncle, Chad Bible, said.
“Why, why her? Why anybody? What did it do? What did you prove? You’re throwing your life away and you ripped our hearts out.”
