A 1-year-old Arizona toddler lost her life after her mother accidentally ran her over while moving her car near their home, according to police.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was notified on Thursday by a woman who reported that she had accidentally run over her baby at their home in Cottonwood. DailyMail identified the victim as Cyra Rose Thoeming.
According to the sheriff’s office, the unidentified mother told deputies that she had parked her car in a gravel area near their residence. She had securely placed the child, who was in a car seat, in what she believed to be a safe position.
While attempting to maneuver the vehicle out of a tight space, the front tire of the car caught the canopy of the car seat. This caused the car seat to fall backward, resulting in critical injuries to the infant.
“While repositioning the vehicle, the front tire caught the canopy of the car seat, causing it to fall backward which led to the infant suffering critical injuries,” the Yavapai County Sheriff said in a statement.
“Medical personnel were performing life saving measures on the infant when YCSO arrived, but despite their heroic efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at the Verde Valley Medical Center.”
Police said no one has been charged for the incident but The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau will continue to investigate.
Meanwhile, the family set up a GoFundMe page to help with “final expenses.”
