A Washington man who vanished while hiking on Memorial Day was found dead earlier this month, police said on Friday.
Jefferson County police announced on their Facebook page that the body of Joshua Guerrier, 28, was recovered from the Duckabush River. Guerrier, 28, disappeared near the Ranger Hole Trail in Brinnon on May 29, and his dog, clothing, and cell phone were reportedly found a day later.
Search crews reportedly discovered Guerrier’s body on July 1.
“The Mason County K9 team successfully detected a trail and located a body partially submerged in water, wedged against debris in the river near mile post 2. Subsequently, the SAR teams recovered the body,” the police department wrote.
Previous reports indicated that Guerrier may have gone into the Duckabush River when currents were strong. According to the nonprofit Black and Missing, his family said his dog was found tied to a tree near where he was last seen alive.
Kitsap County coroners listed Guerrier’s cause of death as drowning. The agency deemed his death an accident.
