Update: A 31-year-old Michigan man wanted for killing one woman and trying to kidnap another has been arrested.
Multiple sources told WJBK that Andrew Hall was spotted in Dearborn Heights, but he fled as police approached him. He was later caught at a bus station.
A Dearborn Heights police officer saw the suspect and called for backup as Hall began going into businesses in the area. Dearborn Heights police took him into custody.
Earlier, Assistant Detroit Police Chief David LeValley said detectives had linked Hall to a murder near Palmer Park early Tuesday morning, WDIV reported. He was, investigators believe, the same man Troy police were looking for in an attempted abduction in a Target parking lot last week.
“Based on the clothing description, everything matching exactly, we believe it to be the same individual,” LeValley said.
Police said the attempted kidnapping took place shortly after 9 p.m. when the woman got into her car in the Target parking lot in Troy, a northern suburb of Detroit. Hall allegedly forced the driver’s door open and attacked her, striking her in the face with a close fist and pulling out a gun. The woman fought back, and a bystander yelled at Hall and ran at him, prompting him to flee, according to police.
Police did not say how they identified Hall as the perpetrator or if there was any connection between the victims and Hall.
“We don’t know what the motive is behind these crimes, but we want everybody to be aware, be diligent, pay attention,” LeValley said.
A $3,500 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
“We need to take him into custody as soon as possible, because he was involved — we believe he was involved — in an attempted abduction last Friday in Troy, now a homicide in Detroit,” LeValley said. “Both of those incidents involved a female victim.”
Sources told WJBK that the murder victim was a prostitute that Hall had hired. After they engaged in sex, Hall allegedly beat her to death and fled on a bicycle, leaving her body behind a building near Palmer Park in north Detroit.
