Child-Sized Doll Seized From Home of Accused Long Island Serial Killer

Police on Saturday removed a child-sized doll from the home of accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann, one of the numerous objects seized from the Long Island house as authorities continued to gather evidence, the New York Post reports.

Images published by the news outlet show investigators carrying out a glass case with what appeared to contain a blonde doll with long braids. The doll had a red bow on its head and was wearing red clothing.

“We’re just going through his house looking to see if there’s any evidence, if he has any trophies,” one law enforcement source told the Post regarding the search.

Police could be seen walking away with boxes of other items, including a cat scratch pole, cat food, an empty bookcase, and a framed picture. Rifles were also removed from the house, according to CBS New York.

Some of the people processing the scene were wearing forensic or hazmat suits with gloves and head coverings. They were putting items in blue bins and then emptying the bins into a truck, according to the Post.

The relevance of the items that police seized from the home, including the doll, are not known publicly.

Heuermann, 59, grew up in the home and before his arrest on Thursday lived there with his wife. He is the father of two children.

Prosecutors have charged Heuermann with first- and second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of three women whose bodies were found buried and wrapped in burlap-like material on Gilgo Beach in 2010. He is also the prime suspect in the death of a fourth woman.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police arrested Heuermann Thursday evening in Manhattan as he was walking along Fifth Avenue, not far from his office, where he ran an architectural firm. The arrest was caught on camera.

Investigators descended on Heuermann’s Massapequa Park home on Long Island Friday morning.
