A 64-year-old Massachusetts man was arrested in connection with the beating death of his wife in their home Saturday night.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said a juvenile inside the Newton ]home called 911 just before 8:30 p.m. to report an ongoing assault, Boston 25 reported. Officers arrived to find Nancy Hanson, 54, severely injured. She was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she died.
Ryan said a restraining order had been issued against Richard Hanson on Thursday, but it had not been served.
Investigators said that Richard Hanson allegedly struck his wife multiple times with one or more objects.
The medical examiner’s office ruled the death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma, Ryan said. Investigators said they anticipate additional charges.
“I know I speak for everyone in Newton when I say my heart goes out to the woman’s family and friends,” Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said. “The woman who was murdered appears to be the victim of domestic violence. The victim’s husband was arrested at the scene by Newton police officers after responding to a 911 call and he remains in the custody of the Newton Police Department.”
Richard Hanson is being held without bail and is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
