Crews in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, continue to search for a baby and toddler who were reportedly swept away by floodwaters following severe storms over the weekend.
According to 69 News, five people were found dead following the storm, and the whereabouts of the two children remain unknown after flash flooding in Upper Makefield Township on Saturday.
Officials said three vehicles were carried away during the storm, with a South Carolina family in one of the vehicles. Upper Makefield police said the family had been visiting their relatives in the area when their car became ensnared in the flash flood along Route 532.
The father managed to rescue a 4-year-old from the car, bringing them both to safety. The floodwaters, however, swept away the mother, grandmother, a 2-year-old, and 9-month-old before they could be rescued.
The grandmother survived the incident and was taken to a hospital, while the mother was found dead on Saturday, according to Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck.
“As they tried to escape the fierce flood waters, dad took his 4-year-old son while the mother and grandmother grabbed the two additional children, ages 9 months and 2 years,” Upper Makefield Township Fire Chief Tim Brewer said, CBS News reports.
“Miraculously, dad and his son got out safely, however, the grandmother, the mother and the two children were swept away by the flood waters. And we have recovered the mother and she is one of the deceased.”
Meanwhile, police urge residents and business owners in the area to contact officials on Monday at 215-968-3340 to report any property or business damage.
