Las Vegas police said Monday that they’re reviewing unsolved murder cases, following the arrest of Rex Heuermann, a New York architect accused of killing three women and dumping their bodies at Gilgo Beach.
Following his arrest on July 13 on murder charges, new information surfaced indicating that Heuermann has connections to both South Carolina and Las Vegas, where he owns properties, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the investigation into a potential connection between Heuermann and unsolved cases in the area.
“We are aware of Rex Heuermann’s connection to Las Vegas. We are currently reviewing our unsolved cases to see if he has any involvement,” a spokesperson told The Independent.
Former NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce added that law enforcement agencies nationwide, including those in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, are actively reviewing cold cases to determine any possible connections to Heuermann.
“I made some phone calls yesterday to see what they were doing. They’re looking at all missing persons who have never been found and see if they can put those together,” he told “Good Morning America.”
“Not just in Suffolk, but throughout the tri-state area to see what they can put together. There’s also the FBI looking at national issues as well.”
Law enforcement officials added Heuermann’s details to a statewide database and are currently comparing his alleged killing methods with other cases across New York, particularly those that occurred during the period he is believed to have been active in 2010, at Gilgo Beach.
As of now, Heuremann is accused of killing three of the four women known collectively as the Gilgo 4. The bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010. All four women were buried in burlap sacks.
Heuerman has been charged with six counts of murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and is the prime suspect in the death of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
He remains behind bars without bail. Check back for updates.
