A 38-year-old New York woman is fighting for her life after she was shot in the head during an apparent love triangle argument that also saw the gunman shoot another man before killing himself.
Police have not released the identities of any of the people involved but say a 50-year-old man was seen arguing with the woman and a 44-year-old man before he pulled out a gun and opened fire just after 3:30 a.m. Thursday in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Police said all three knew one another, and investigators believe both men were involved romantically with the woman.
Residents told The Daily News the woman’s screams got them out of bed early Thursday morning.
“There was a woman you can hear screaming very loudly,” one neighbor, who would only identify herself as Carol, said. “I didn’t want to go to the window. And before you knew it there were some shots and then more screaming.”
Police said the gunman shot the woman in the head and leg and the man in the stomach before he shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The two victims were rushed to Kings County Hospital where the woman was in critical condition. The man was expected to recover.
