Minnesota Man Beats 72-Year-old Dad to Death Because ‘He Needed to Die’: Docs

A 39-year-old Minnesota man has been charged with his 72-year-old father’s death.

According to court documents, Frederick Schech was found dead in the kitchen of the upstairs level of a home in Minnetonka on Wednesday after officers were called there by the woman who lives in the lower level, KARE reported.

The woman told police that she had seen the elder Schech and his son Jacob the night before and that the son had been drinking and giving his father “a hard time” while Frederick worked on the pool. The witness told investigators she went to bed at about 8:30 p.m. and heard a “loud crash” and what sounded like stomping from the upstairs level.

Frederick’s wife reportedly called the woman several times, asking if she’d heard from her husband or son because they “weren’t answering their phones,” the court documents said.

At about 1 a.m., the documents say, the woman was awakened by the family dog. She said she let the dog outside and then went upstairs, she she found Jacob Schech asleep on the couch. She reportedly asked where his father was, and then found Frederick’s body on the kitchen floor.

The criminal complaint says that she asked Jacob what happened and he said, “He needed to die.” She later told investigators that he told her, “I was going to give him crab legs, and then, you know, he just needs to die. And mom knows he needs to die, and I would have just let mom handle it.”

When officers arrived, they met with the woman and found the younger Schech, wearing only gym shorts with blood on his hands and right foot.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said that Frederick Schech died from blunt force injuries, including fractures to his skull, face, neck, and ribs. He also had cuts to his head and neck.

Jacob Shech, who has been charged with second degree murder, is being held in the Hennepin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
