Houston Custody Exchange Ends in Murder-Suicide

A custody exchange late Sunday night in Houston ended with both parents dead in a murder-suicide,

Houston Police said the mother arrived at the father’s apartment complex to pick up her 2-year-old son just before 10 p.m. Her new boyfriend and a friend, carrying a 16-day-old baby, were with her, KTRK reported.

The father got into the car with the three adults and the baby, and got into an argument with the mother. Investigators say he pulled out a gun and shot her and then ran away.

The mother was pronounced dead at the scene.

The infant “was cut by glass shards from the shooting and was transported to local area hospital with his mother just to be checked up on and evaluated,” Houston Police Lt. J.P. Horelica said. “It doesn’t seem like other than some minor cuts, the child was injured.”

Officer sent a police dog to find the father, and his body was located a couple of blocks away. Investigators say he appeared to have died by suicide.

Police have not released the names of the mother and father.

According to KPRC, the 2-year-old boy did not witness the shooting and is now being cared for by other family members.
