North Carolina police are searching for a 34-year-old woman after her disabled sister was found dead inside the home they shared.
Marion Police said they responded to a request for a welfare check on Tuesday, but no one appeared to be home. While they were still on the scene, family members arrived and said that a disabled person who needs constant care may be inside. But the family members did not have access to the home.
Officers eventually found an unlocked window and saw a motionless person inside the room. They made entry through the front door to deliver aid, but found the person was dead.
The officers exited the home and secured the scene, then called in detectives, who obtained a search warrant and began processing the scene.
The dead woman was identified as Kristin Rutherford, 27. Witnesses and family members said Rutherford needed extensive in-home care and that her sister, Casie Lynne McCartha, was responsible for taking care of her.
Police have obtained a warrant for concealing the death of a person and are searching for her. She is believed to be driving a silver 2016 Ford Fusion with a North Carolina license plate HLR-3298.
Police have not revealed the cause or manner of Rutherford’s death.
Marion Police asked anyone with information to call them at 828-652-4000.
