Florida Man Shoots Dead Aunt’s Boyfriend in Argument Over Gun Safety

Florida police have arrested a man accused of fatally shooting his aunt’s boyfriend over an argument over his mishandling of a gun.

The Casselberry Police Department said that 22-year-old Joel Ferrer surrendered to them Saturday morning at about 10:30 a.m., WESH reported.

The incident took place at about 11 p.m. Thursday night at the Goldelm at Regency Oaks complex in Casselberry. Officers said Ferrer and 41-year-old David Jackson, the boyfriend of Ferrer’s 32-year-old aunt, got into a heated argument over Ferrer’s alleged mishandling of a gun.

Ferrer shot Jackson several times and then ran off, police said. Jackson was rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery but did not survive.

Police secured a warrant for Ferrer’s arrest on a second degree murder charge and launched a search for him, which ended when he turned himself in.

He appeared before a Seminole County judge Sunday morning and was denied bail. He’s due in court again on August 29.
