A Louisiana couple was arrested last week after their 4-month-old daughter was found dead in their home.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said that 24-year-old Angel Taylor and 31-year-old Chevy Lafountain have been charged with second degree murder, neglect, and child abuse.
Officers were called to the couple’s home in Reserve about an infant not breathing. They and emergency medical personnel found no vital signs, and the coroner pronounced the baby dead on the scene.
Detectives launched in investigation, noting immediately that “the home was in deplorable condition” and that the couple’s 13-month-old son also “showed signs of neglect and abuse.”
Taylor and Lafountain were arrested and charged with multiple crimes related to treatment of their son. When an autopsy revealed the girl had suffered from starvation, malnutrition, dehydration, severe neglect, and abuse, they were charged with murder.
Investigators said that during interviews, the couple’s “statements were inconsistent with the infant’s physical state.” The pair “appeared unremorseful for their actions that led to their daughter’s death and their son’s current physical condition and their living conditions.”
A judge gave each a $600,000 bond. The couple’s son was taken into state custody.
