A lawyer for Long Island serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann’s two adult children says they’re “not foreclosing” a jailhouse visit to their father but haven’t made a decision.
Vess Mitev told British tabloid The U.S. Sun that Victoria Heuermann, 26, and her stepbrother Christopher Sheridan, 33, are “dealing with this on a minute-by-minute basis.”
“Anything could change at any time and they’re mindful of that,” the attorney said, declining to discuss the allegations against Heuermann or the family’s opinions of the six murder counts that have been filed against him.
Heuermann, 59, was arrested last month and charged with the deaths of three of the Gilgo 4, women found dead on Gilgo Beach wrapped in burlap in December 2011, as CrimeOnline reported. He is the prime suspect in the death of the fourth woman.
Heuermann has had no visitors since he was locked up without bond except for his attorney. Earlier, an attorney for his wife, Asa Ellerup, said that she had spoken with him by phone. She has also filed for divorce.
Bob Macedonio, her attorney, said the decision to file for divorce was basically a precautionary move to keep her off the hook for any future lawsuits that could be filed by victims’ families.
“It just means you anticipate there may be lawsuits, there may be financial situations she arises in,” he said.
Attorneys also said Ellerup and the children found their home in complete disarray when they were allowed back in after investigators spent two weeks tearing through it looking for evidence.
Mitev told The Sun that floorboards were ripped up, sentimental items were destroyed, and everything had been moved around.
