A Kentucky toddler found a loaded and unsecured gun and shot himself in the stomach.

The 2-year-old boy was pronounced dead at a hospital, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies were called to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday and performed first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and took the boy to the hospital.

Deputies are investigating, but the preliminary investigation determined that the boy shot himself after finding the pistol.

Police have not released the name of the victim or said if any charges would be filed.
