A 34-year-old woman found dead in a burning fire pit in March was in her first trimester of pregnancy when she died, according to a new report from a North Carolina medical examiner.
Cecily Anne Walker has previously been identified as the victim found in the backyard fire pit in Cary on March 19. A 911 caller reported the flames, which were visible above a five-foot tall fence, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
The new report says officers found Ian Delauder, who owned the home, standing by the edge of the pit, according to WNCN. When they saw human remains in the fire, Delauder ran into a camper trailer in the driveway, spoke with his live-in girlfriend, and shot himself. He died at a hospital.
Walker was found inside a plastic garbage bin with a rope tied around her waste. She had a gunshot wound to the head, and the medical examiner said it was likely she was dead before her body was put in the fire since no soot was in her lungs.
A toxicology report found cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and methadone in the victim’s system.
According to the report, an accelerant was used in the fire, and a gasoline tank was found on the trailer’s bumper.
Delauder had been doing extensive renovations to his home and had parked campers in the driveway where he and his girlfriend lived while the work was ongoing.
Cary police said they’d been called to the home 21 times since 2018, with calls ranging from drugs and suspicious activity to welfare checks. Delauder had previous arrests for larceny and drug possession.
It’s not known how he and Walker knew one another. Delauder was named the suspect in her death.
