A 32-year-old Indiana woman has been arrested after her 2-month-old daughter was found underweight and malnourished and living in horrible conditions.
The Vanderburgh County Department of Child Services received a call about an infant being neglected at the home of Cassandria Roy, a woman who had a history with the department, WEHT reported.
Roy refused to allow a DCS case manager to look at the child, so she was taken from the home. The case manager reported that the home was filthy, and the little girl was taken to the emergency room for an evaluation and treatment.
Evansville Police said the baby was found with several rashes, including a severe diaper rash, and a yeast infection on her neck. Doctors also discovered that her urinary tract was “nearly closed” and said it may require surgery.
Investigators said Roy, who appeared to be on drugs when she was arrested, had not taken the infant to a doctor since her birth.
The DCS said that it had previously removed children from Roy’s care but did not elaborate.
Roy was charged with neglect and is being held without bond, WFIE said.
