A Minnesota toddler “got a hold” of his father’s loaded, unsecured 9mm handgun on Tuesday and shot himself in the head.
According to court documents, the incident happened at about 9 p.m. in Hinckley. The boy, identified as 3-year-old Thomas Pauza-Moore, was pronounced dead at the scene.
BringMeTheNews.com said that the boy’s father and his roommate were in the basement and heard a crash upstairs followed by a gunshot. The 26-year-old father went upstairs to investigate and found his son in his bedroom with a gunshot.
Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead on the scene.
Documents say the father told officers his son “got a hold” of the gun somehow and shot himself. Police executed a search warrant and found multiple other weapons, including an AR-15 and a shotgun.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Pine County Sheriff’s Department said the child died in a “medical incident.” No charges have been filed.
