The Maryland mother who was found murdered on a hiking trail last weekend had profiles on multiple dating apps, the New York Post reports.
Rachel Morin, 37, vanished last Saturday, August 5. Her body was found the following day in a drain tunnel near the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air, Maryland.
As police continue to investigate the killing, more details are coming to light about the mother-of-five and what happened in the hours leading up to her death.
Morin is believed to have visited a bronzing studio she frequented around 2 p.m. for her daily spray tan. She had reportedly told studio employees that she was on “multiple dating sites,” according to the Post, citing an unnamed source “close to the salon.”
The same week of her death, Morin reportedly had shared publicly that she was dating a man by the name of Richard Tobin.
Morin had told studio staff that she was going to a gym, a detail Tobin confirmed when he commented on Facebook that also he was going to a gym with Morin. That comment has since been deleted and Tobin has made his social media pages private, according to the Post.
Tobin had also said on Facebook that he dropped Morin off at her home just before 5 p.m., although that comment also was later deleted, according to the Post.
Morin is believed to have gone for a run on the hiking trail and was last seen between 6 and 7:30 p.m.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is urging people who were on the trail that evening to provide information. Investigators have said they want to speak with five witnesses who were on the trail the evening of Morin’s death.
On Facebook, Tobin had said Morin was missing by around 7 p.m. and that he and her children started searching for her around 9 p.m. They went to police around midnight.
“She’s been missing since 7 p.m., she went on a hike and me and the kids have been trying to find her since 9,” Tobin wrote in a Facebook comment, which also has since been deleted, according to the Post.
Police have not identified Tobin as a suspect.
Morin’s family is grappling with her loss. As CrimeOnline reported Thursday, her sister Rebekah posted a message from their mother thanking the community for support and pleading for compassion.
“We need the time and space to grieve as a family,” the note said. “I ask that as mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters, that you would please have compassion on us and allow us this.”
