Police investigating the murder of Maryland mother Rachel Morin say they have identified and contacted several people believed to be out walking around the time of her disappearance, CBS News reports.
Morin, 37, was found dead last weekend along the Ma and Pa trail in Bel Air.
One week since the mother of five was attacked, authorities are still investigating her death and have not announced any arrests.
On Friday, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office issued an update stating that investigators have identified five people who were believed to be out walking dogs between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, August 5, the timeframe that Morin was last seen heading to the trail.
The sheriff’s office had previously issued a request for assistance to find the individuals, according to a statement on Facebook.
“Detectives have been made aware of potential witnesses that may have observed Rachel Morin on the trail. These individuals were walking on the Ma and PA trail from the Rt. 24 tunnel toward the split in the trail that leads to the Williams Street trailhead between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm. These witnesses were described as either being 3 men, 2 women and 2 dogs OR 2 men, 3 women and 2 dogs.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Morin’s boyfriend, Richard Tobin, reported her missing around midnight Sunday after she did not return from an evening run. She had visited a spray tan salon earlier in the day and may have worked out at a gym with Tobin before going on the trail.
Tobin has denied any involvement in Morin’s death and police have not named him as a suspect.
The sheriff’s office has already received hundreds of tips and has 10 investigators working the case. Still, more information is needed.
“We do not have a solid suspect. Not knowing whether this was a targeted event specific to Rachel, we are going to say, yes, be aware, be thinking there could be somebody out here and this is a random event,” Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler has said, according to the Independent.
