Authorities this week searched a backyard in connection with the unsolved disappearance of a Florida woman who was last seen the same day she and her former fiancé appeared on national television, WESH-TV reports.
On November 17, 2011, a taped episode of “The People’s Court” aired featuring 33-year-old Michelle Parker and her ex-fiancé, Dale Smith Jr., in a dispute over a lost $5,000 engagement ring.
She has not been seen since that day.
Investigators, however, have not given up. On Wednesday, police searched the backyard of a property in Orange County owned by Smith’s father.
According to WKMG-TV, Parker had dropped off her twins at Smith’s condo on the day she went missing. Her Hummer SUV was found the next day in a parking lot in Orlando, and the following month, divers recovered her phone underneath a bridge.
Smith had refused to cooperate in the investigation and has been a person of interest, but has not been criminally charged in the case, according to Fox 35.
Parker’s mom, Yvonne Stewart, said investigators deployed ground-penetrating radar in Wednesday’s search, operating it over a concrete slab that was poured after Parker disappeared.
Police reportedly did not find anything of value to the investigation during Wednesday’s search.
“It’s one more hurdle, and we’re just not done yet; just keep going as long as there’s somebody who might tell, a tip or an idea, that’s all we have,” Stewart told WESH-TV.
Smith has denied any involvement in Parker’s disappearance. His attorney told WESH-TV: “Police have wasted an unbelievable amount of time and resources investigating the wrong person . . . Of course, they did not find anything today because Dale Smith Jr. is innocent.”
A $200,00 award is being offered for information that leads to finding Parker or an arrest.
To report information about the case, call the Orlando Police Department at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
