After law enforcement released a video showing a possible suspect in hiker mom Rachel Morin’s murder earlier this month, her boyfriend made two social media posts calling for the quick capture of the man he called “scum.”
“I hope they found this scum of the earth , justice for Rachel Rip love you rach,” Richard Tobin said in the first post, followed by “Please help identify this scum bag #ripRachelmorin,” along with the Harford County Sheriff’s Office post containing the video.
Morin, the 37-year-old mother of 5 children, was found dead on August 6 just off the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, just over 12 hours after Tobin reported her missing when she didn’t return from a run on the trail, as CrimeOnline reported.
Sheriff’s office chief deputy Col. William Davis released the video Thursday night, saying the man was a suspect in a home invasion and assault on a young girl in Los Angeles in March. DNA found at the scene of Morin’s murder was a match to the Los Angeles suspect, he said.
Davis said investigators have not confirmed a name for the suspect, and the video shows only a quick profile before the muscular, shirtless man turns and walks away.
“We believe this was a person that Rachel didn’t know and was possibly a random act of violence,” Davis said. “We don’t have any clue where he could be. We don’t even know if he’s still in the state of Maryland.”
Davis described the suspect as Hispanic, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 pounds, and in his early to mid-20s.
Davis announced a new email address for tips about the case: RMTIPS@harfordsheriff.org.
